Don't Be a Top-10 OSHA Violator: 5 Fail-Safe Strategies for Machine Safety - Special Report
Business and Legal Reports Inc, Jan 2007
Each year, working with machinery is one of the top causes of workplace injuries. In 2005, the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), annual survey showed 5,080 cases of nonfatal amputation occurrences caused in this manner. Clearly, no workplace wants to achieve recognition by having an amputation or, even worse, a fatality, due to an accident. Careful development of a 5-step program for machine safety can dramatically reduce the odds of such a tragic event.
Step 1: Evaluate the hazards of your machine operations. Step 2: Analyze your protection systems. Step 3: Analyze inspection, maintenance, and lockout/tagout procedures. Step 4: Review and minimize other operational hazards. Step 5: Evaluate and strengthen your worker training program.
