Such procurements only include equipment, parts, and maintenance (EPM); other elements of military spending, such as personnel and buildings, are omitted. Defense electronics and military aerospace are covered by the defense segment; the civil aerospace segment includes civilian planes and space equipment, but excludes military aircraft and related items. Any currency conversions used in the creation of this report have been calculated using constant 2009 annual average exchange rates.

For the purposes of this report, Asia-Pacific comprises Australia, China, India, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan.
