The report is focused on the present situation of the telecommunications sector in the country and on its development in the period 2005-2009. It presents the regulatory environment, the major companies, the supply and demand for fixed- line and mobile telephony and internet services, as well as investments and forecasts for the sector’s future.

In 2009, the total revenue of the telecommunications sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina increased by 3.2% to EUR 715.8 mln. Mobile telephony slowed down its growth to 1.3% in 2009 from 24.3% in 2008. The revenue of the fixed-line telephony continued to shrink and reached EUR 230.1 mln, down by 10.7% year-on-year.

Bosnia's telecommunications market is dominated by three companies - state-owned BH Telecom d.d. and Hrvatske Telekomunikacije d.d. (HT d.d.) Mostar, both in Federation of Bosnia, and Herzegovina and Telekom Srpske a.d., headquartered in Banja Luka, Bosnia's Serb Republic.

The three companies are the only providers of mobile telephony in Bosnia and Herzegovina. They also operate on the fixed line telephony and on the Internet services markets along with another nine alternative operators and 76 Internet Services Providers (ISPs).
