The Czech Republic Consumer Electronics Report provides industry professionals and strategists, corporate analysts, electronics associations, government departments and regulatory bodies with independent forecasts and competitive intelligence on Czech Republic's consumer electronics industry.

The Czech Republic’s consumer electronics devices market, defined as the addressable market for computing devices, mobile handsets and video, audio and gaming products, is projected at US$4.2bn in2011. Following negative spending growth in digital cameras, mobile handsets and some other product categories in 2009 due to the economic slowdown and lower prices, demand is forecast to increase at a2011-2015 CAGR of 5.5% to US$5.2bn by 2015. The main drivers are the growing popularity of feature rich digital lifestyle products such as flat screen digital TV sets, notebook computers and digital cameras, as well as rising incomes and lower prices.

In H110, the market for electronics products was constrained by a continued fall in prices. Affected products included flat screen TV sets, handsets, and digital cameras. In 2009, the addressable market for consumer electronics products dropped by around 10% amid the economic crisis. The main growth drivers will be rising incomes, lower prices and the growing popularity of feature-rich digital lifestyle products such as flat-screen digital TV sets, notebook computers and digital cameras. A digital TV broadcasting signal is now available to more than 50% of Czech households, while growing fixed and mobile broadband penetration will fuel demand for netbook computers and high-end handsets.

Computers:

Computer hardware accounted for around48% of Czech consumer electronics spending in 2009 and will continue to be the largest product category. BMI forecasts Czech domestic market computer hardware sales, including notebooks and accessories, to beUS$2.1bn in 2011, with low single-digit growth from 2010. In 2009, the increased popularity of low-priced netbooks put downward pressure on average prices and revenues. Computer hardware CAGR for the 2011-2015 period is forecast at about8.6%, driven by demand for wireless-equipped notebooks and netbooks.

AV:

AV devices accounted for around 39% of Czech consumer electronics spending in2009. The Czech Republic’s addressable AV device market is estimated atUS$1.6bn in 2011. Despite recent negative growth due to price erosion, a CAGR of 2.4% is projected for 2011-2015, due largely to continued growth in the digital TV set category as the country progresses towards a 2011 analogue switch-off date. In Central Bohemia, a survey found that 74% of households had switched to digital broadcasting ahead of the transition date of October 31 2009.

Mobile Handsets:

Mobile handset sales accounted for around 13% of Czech consumer electronics spending in 2009. Czech market handset sales are expected to grow at a CAGR of 1.5% to US$581mnin 2015, as mobile subscriber penetration reaches 133%. In 2010 lower average prices continued to put mobile handset revenues. Average handset retail prices were down 15.4% year-on-year (y-o-y) in July 2009, according to figures from the Czech Statistics Office. Operators are looking to drive postpaid subscriptions by offering subsidised popular handsets such as the Apple iPhone 3G and Research In Motion’s BlackBerry range.
