The number and the value of ATM withdrawals declined in 2011, in both cases by 1%. Much of this was due to ATM reforms initiated by the Reserve Bank of Australia, which were launched in March 2009. The centre piece of these reforms, was the removal of “foreign fees” for withdrawals at “foreign ATMs”, that is ATMs that belong to banks other than the cardholder’s bank.
