Global wine sales were experiencing slow growth because of the financial crisis, but Chinese wine sales, especially grape wine sales, kept booming and saw robust year-on-year growth. Hence, more multinational brands were entering the Chinese wine market to compete with the domestic brands. According to the Grape Wine Association, imported volume of bottled grape wine from France, Australia and New Zealand increased by 35.8%, 36.1% and 80.2% respectively in 2009.
