This report examines in detail the hospital market for peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC'S) and epicutaneo-cave (ECC) catheters. A distinction is made between adult and paediatric catheters. For each category of product, the report gives market size and market structure by end-user segment in volume and in value, and market shares in volume. Consumption figures are collected direcly from hospitals, then analysed using linear regression. Analyses are performed for each category of establishment within the public and the private sectors separately.
Demand for PICC's and ECC catheters has steadily increased over years. Silicone peadiatric catheters are by far the largest segment. The market for adult catheters is shared between Cook, Vygon, Bard and BD, which togeher account for approximately 95 per cent of supply. Vygon dominates the market for paediatric catheters. Overall, the market was valued at 0.7 million euros in 2009.
