The global uranium market, as with most other commodities, is generally ruled by supply and demand, with the difference that the normal workings of the market are influenced by the mineral’s strategic nature. Uranium’s main use, of course, is as fuel for nuclear reactors and many countries are looking to nuclear as a cleaner option for providing electricity to their citizens and industry.

In Latin America, a number of countries have taken steps in the last two decades to loosen state control over uranium and encourage private exploration and development, signalling a change in strategy.

This report focuses on public policies governing the exploration and production of uranium in the region and the role of the private sector as well as global trends in this industry.
