The first nine months of 2010 compared to STLY show overall growth in major appliances, and industry experts expect this trend to continue for the remainder of 2010. Korea's Samsung Electronics reported that revenue for the third quarter was up 12% over 3Q 2009, which tops the company's previous record for quarterly revenue.

The company also set a quarterly record increase of 17% for net income. Electrolux reported 3Q 2010 net sales down slightly, but President and CEO Hans Straberg called results 'very strong' and said lower earnings stemmed from increases in raw materials costs and marketing spending. 'Despite this,' he said, 'we reached an operating margin of 6% for the first three quarters' and he expects to reach the company's goal of a 6% operating margin for full-year 2010. Various appliance industry supplier sectors report continuing growth for the year. U.S. manufacturing technology consumption totaled $399.76 million in September, up 66.1% from August and up 156.8% over September 2009. Year-to-date 2010 was up 74.1% compared with 2009. Manufacturing production increased for the 17th consecutive month in October, at a rate of expansion the fastest since June. Growth accelerated sharply in the U.S. to a five-month high, and China reached a nine-month high.

New orders rose for the 16th consecutive month in October. Experts expect the upcoming holiday shopping season to be dominated by careful shoppers doing research before buying and making fewer impulse purchases. Sixty percent of consumers plan to spend the same as last year and only 9% plan to spend more. The anticipated 'hot gifts' of 2010 include single-serve coffeemakers, stand mixers, cordless drills, and men's electric shavers.
