In-Vehicle Infotainment Systems Must Offer a Connected Multimedia Experience
In-Stat/MDR, March 2011, Pages: 21
Today’s consumers are demanding the same multimedia experience and always-on connectivity in their automobiles that they enjoy in and out of the home. In order to address these demands, automakers are offering in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) systems—systems embedded into cars that offer audio, video, navigation, telematics, and Internet connectivity. But to be truly successful in the emerging IVI system market, automakers must turn away from their traditionally long development cycles, typically measured in decades, and partner with technology and software companies to quickly deliver IVI systems that are dynamic, easily upgradeable, and affordable to mass-market drivers. Traditional suppliers to the consumer electronics industry, as well as automakers, stand to benefit from the growing IVI system market.
