Large Hydro in Latin America

Hydropower provides the world with around 20% of it s electricity and Latin America is the leading user of this technology. Considering that, in this part of the world, hydro power makes up 60% of generation, that Brazil ranks 3rd globally in installed hydro capacity, and that Brazil alone holds 15% of the world’s fresh water, the future of large hydro in the region is of the utmost importance.
This edition of the Energy Intelligence Series analyzes the state of large hydro to see how its global resurgence is affecting the Latin American region and reviews some of the different models being used to develop these mega projects.
