Dreamforce 2010 - What Has Changed a Year Later?

This note summarizes the status of Salesforce.com in 2011, and highlights the areas where Salesforce is likely to compete, and where it won't.
Salesforce.com is a long, long way from having the breadth and depth of Microsoft, Oracle, or SAP applications. It's clear that the company has neither the desire, nor the internal resources, to build mission-critical business applications supporting core end-to-end transaction business processes. Nonetheless, as the only $1 billion+ software vendor that has a proven track record of building SaaS/cloud applications, Salesforce.com now stands to incrementally gain from its strategic moves and the last three years of learning what it takes to operate a large-scale multi-tenant infrastructure.
