PhoCusWright's Analysts' Innovation Wishlist
PhoCusWright, Dec 2010, Pages: 9
The PhoCusWright Innovation Edition documents the latest products, services and technologies that are changing how consumers plan, shop, book and experience travel. As analysts, our role is to review, evaluate, and compare these initiatives. While there have been dramatic improvements in the travel process over the past decade, the pace of change is sometimes slow.
In this Spotlight, PhoCusWright analysts chime in about the types of travel innovations they would like to see, but so far haven't. Analysts were challenged to name three or four areas of innovation that travel companies should focus on. In addition, they were asked what they believe is the biggest opportunity for technology-based innovation in travel distribution. Follow-up questions address potential applications of the technology, examples inside and outside of the travel space, and the consequences of not innovating.
Since each analyst has his or her own area of expertise, it is not surprising that there was substantial variation in their responses. Despite the diversity of perspectives, there was consensus that the biggest opportunities exist in the areas of social network integration, personalization, integrated trip planning and mobile applications.
