Future of Global Carbon Markets – Trends and Prospects 2011-2012
Synergyst, March 2011, Pages: 85
After a turbulent 2009, global carbon credits market saw some revival in the markets and are estimated to have reached more than US$120 billion in 2010. Things began to improve slightly in 2010 and though carbon markets started recovering in dollar terms - due to higher carbon prices - growth in traded volume remain stagnated. European Union remained the largest carbon market followed by United States and Australia while China continued its leadership as the largest seller of carbon in 2010. The most significant trend for the year was a shift from over the counter trading to exchange trading. As doubts remain over the result of global climate change negotiations, carbon companies are expanding their businesses into alternative opportunities in related markets. In 2011, global carbon market is estimated to grow by more than 16%, primarily due to surge in demand of allowances by utilities before the Phase III of EU-ETS. Synergyst's “Future of Global Carbon Markets – Trends and Prospects (2011-2012)” analyses global carbon market, key segments and trends in various countries.
