A distinction is made between the following specialties: gynecology, urology, orthopedics, EENT & plastic surgery, cardiology, angiography, ophthalmology, surgical surgery and others. For each specialty, the report gives market size in volume and in value. Market shares in volume are given for all custom procedure packs and for gyneacology, orthopaedic, angiography and ophthalmology packs separately. Market structure by end-user segment is provided in volume and in value for all packs.
Consumption figures were collected directly from hospitals, then analysed using linear regression. Analyses were performed for each category of establishment within the public and the private sectors separately.
Demand for custom procedure packs has steadily increased over years to reach 75 million euros in 2009, of which three-quarters were accounted for by private hospitals. Suppliers tend to specialise in specific surgical specialties. Overall, Cardinal Health/CareFusion dominates the market, followed by Mölnlycke/Pharmaset.
