Petroleo Brasileiro S.A. (Petrobras) is an integrated oil and gas company involved in the exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas; refining and transportation of crude oil and natural gas; and manufacture of petroleum products and biofuels. The company's operations are primarily located in Brazil; however, it operates in around 23 countries. The company's business is divided into four segments; upstream, downstream, distribution, and gas and power. The upstream segment of the company is engaged in exploration, development and production of crude oil, Natural Gas Liquids (NGL) and natural gas resources globally. Its major producing assets are located in Brazil, however, it also produces from Angola and Nigeria in Africa. The company's upstream segment contributed around 48% in its total revenue in 2010. Its upstream segment has contributed on average around 49.2% in its total revenue since 2007. Being one of the major contributors towards the company's total revenue, the company has very ambitious growth plans to increase its upstream production. In line with this, the company plans to invest almost $118.8 billion in its upstream activities from its planned capital expenditure (capex) of $224.1 billion during 2010–2014.
