Mobile Device & Application Management
AOTMP, April 2011, Pages: 20
The importance of effectively managing the mobile devices that reside within the enterprise today cannot be overstated. Enterprises only need to look at recent developments across the wireless landscape to understand this sentiment.
Several AOTMP trends fuel this position:
- Enterprises are managing more service providers, device models, and operating systems than ever before - Smart device penetration is now on par with traditional cell phones - The number of applications being deployed has increased 50% year-over-year, for the last two years
Realizing this movement, mobile device management (MDM) and mobile application management (MAM) have become two of the most critical components of overall wireless strategy for enterprises today. Without these practices in place, enterprises leave themselves vulnerable to wireless security, maintenance and repair risks associated with a lack of adoption. In fact, based upon AOTMP research, 41% of companies are at partial or full security risk due to the lack of MDM protocol adoption. Further complicating matters, AOTMP has identified that 79% of companies are at maintenance risk and 90% are at troubleshooting and repair risk due to missing MDM and MAM practices.
The time is now for enterprises to assess their security, maintenance and repair strategies as it relates to MDM deployment. The remainder of this report will delve deeper into defining and identifying risk across various enterprises segments, as well as measuring MDM adoption across the enterprise.
Research indicates a lack of enterprise adoption towards Mobile Device Management (MDM) and Mobile Application Management (MAM) activities. The following represents the percentage of companies at partial or full risk in each category: - Security: 41% - Maintenance: 79% - Troubleshooting/Repair: 90%
Enterprises should read this report in order to understand: - What are the areas for potential security, maintenance and repair risk for your organization? - How does your organizational risk compare to peers? - What percentage of companies are deploying MDM and MAM practices today? - What percentage of companies deploy email, CRM, document viewing, security and softphone applications? - How many remote data wipes or device kills are performed by similar organizations each year?
Along with answering these critical questions, this report provides the following benchmarks: - % of all organizations at security, maintenance and repair risk due to a lack of MDM and MAM protocols - % of large organizations at security, maintenance and repair risk due to a lack of MDM and MAM protocols - % of medium organizations at security, maintenance and repair risk due to a lack of MDM and MAM protocols - % of small organizations at security, maintenance and repair risk due to a lack of MDM and MAM protocols - % of public sector organizations at security, maintenance and repair risk due to a lack of MDM and MAM protocols - % of organizations at security risk – by industry vertical - % of organizations at maintenance risk – by industry vertical - % of organizations at repair risk – by industry vertical - MDM activity adoption – by number of devices within company - Remote device data wipe adoption – by number of devices within company - Remote device kill adoption – by number of devices - Remote application update adoption – by number of devices - Remote configuration update adoption – by number of devices - Remote device data wipe adoption – by number of devices - Remotely taking control of device adoption – by number of devices - Remote performance diagnostic adoption – by number of devices - Back-up/Restore adoption – by number of devices - % of enterprises tracking/monitoring applications - Average # of business applications deployed – by company size - Email application adoption – by company size - CRM application adoption – by company size - Document viewing application adoption – by company size - Security application adoption – by company size - Softphone application adoption – by company size
