Benchmarking the Total Cost of Fixed Telecom Expense Management (TEM)

Managing the telecom budget and human capital requirements can be a difficult proposition for the enterprise. Gauging how other enterprises distribute their budgets and allocate resources for fixed telecom expense management activities provides an effective means to benchmark performance. This report serves as a guide for the enterprise in order to assess their own telecom budgets while providing FTE and other key benchmarks for managing telecom expense management activities.
While managing the telecom environment, enterprises oftentimes ask themselves these important questions:
- How do our telecom costs compare against other organizations?
- Do we have too few or too many resources performing a specific activity?
- How does our performance in other telecom expense management categories compare to others?
With these questions in mind, AOTMP embarked upon a research initiative to assess the total cost of managing the telecom environment. This report serves as a guide for the enterprise in order to assess cost and efficiency metrics relative to other organizations. Among others, specific comparative benchmarks include:
- Line Item Telecom Budget Cost Comparisons
- Average FTE Requirements for TEM Activities
- Average Number of Telecom Contracts
- Average Telecom Contract Length
- Average Number of Service Providers in the Environment
- Reporting Effort Metrics
In the first of a two part series of research publications, AOTMP focuses on managing the fixed telecom environment which includes wireline voice and data, internet and associated fixed services. The second report in the series will deal specifically with wireless mobility management. The ultimate goal within telecom environment management is to measure and consider the contributions of all areas of the environment. This report and related content will focus specifically on the financial and resource elements of the environment.'
