Smoking in Taiwan is highly regulated by the amended Tobacco Hazard Prevention and Control Act, which went into effect on 11 January 2009. Advertisements and joint promotions with distributors are no longer allowed. Special editions or promotional packs are also banned from sale. The new rules stipulate that each violation of the regulation could result in a fine of between NT$5 million and NT$25 million.
