NEW YORK (Standard & Poor's CreditWire) March 10, 1999--Standard & Poor's today assigned its preliminary double-`A'-plus rating to Ameritech Capital Funding Corp.'s $1 billion senior unsecured debt securities shelf, guaranteed by parent Ameritech Corp., and placed the rating on CreditWatch with negative implications. Standard & Poor's ratings on Ameritech Corp. and subsidiaries (see list) remain on CreditWatch with negative implications, where they were placed May 11, 1998. The CreditWatch placement followed the announced definitive merger agreement with SBC Communications Inc. to be consummated through a stock exchange. The merger is expected to close in 1999. Ameritech's ratings reflect the high level of operating efficiency and extremely strong measures of credit quality associated with the company's core telephone and cellular businesses....
