Health & Welfare Funds in the US
IBISWorld, Jan 2011, Pages: 32
Protracted recovery: Despite revenue growth, the industry continues to lose ground to insurance carriers
Health & Welfare Funds in the US
A protracted recovery
Health and welfare funds have been feeling the heat from insurance carriers, and the next five years promise much of the same. As insurance carriers become larger and more powerful, funds will become less able to compete with them on price and benefits. Furthermore, the industry's pool of potential members will continue to shrink, as union membership dwindles and the number of part-time workers rises. However, medical cost inflation will push industry revenue upward, while the economic recovery will bring operators more favorable investment conditions.
This industry is comprised of legal entities (i.e., funds, plans and/or programs) organized to provide medical, surgical, hospital, vacation, training and other health and welfare related employee benefits exclusively for the sponsor’s employees or members. Unlike private insurers, insurance funds are operated for the benefit of members and their sponsors, not shareholders.
This report covers the scope, size, disposition and growth of the industry including the key sensitivities and success factors. Also included are five year industry forecasts, growth rates and an analysis of the industry key players and their market shares.
