The banking services sector in Denmark is undergoing its second phase of radical change this decade, a process that is increasing the already high level of concentration. While the first phase in the early 1990s involved the merging of five large domestic banks to create two dominant banking groups, now mergers and acquisitions, alliances, and cooperation agreements are uniting banking, mortgage credit, and insurance institutions to create three large financial conglomerates.
