LONDON (Standard & Poor's CreditWire) Sept. 1, 1999--Standard & Poor's today assigned its 'A-1'-plus short-term corporate credit ratings to Belgacom S.A. (Belgacom). Standard & Poor's also assigned its double-'A' long-term and 'A-1'-plus short-term ratings the euro (Eur) 1 billion domestic debt issuance program, jointly issued by Belgacom and Belgacom Services NV/SA, which is guaranteed by Belgacom. The ratings on Belgacom reflect the company's leading position in the Belgian telecommunications market, and its strong cash flow generation. Also, implicit state support for its obligations is a significant rating factor, although its importance is decreasing.
