The two major U.S.-based automakers, Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Corp. (GM), have achieved extremely strong profitability and cash flow levels during the past five years, reflecting both the prolonged, cyclically favorable industry environment in North America and the efficacy of strategies to improve their competitiveness.
