Abstract
Standard & Poor's Ratings Services assigned its 'A+' long-term rating to The George Washington University's series 2009 taxable bonds. Standard & Poor's also affirmed its 'A+' underlying ratings (SPURs) and 'AAA/A-1' dual ratings on the university's outstanding debt. The 'A+' rating reflects the university's: Strong demand characteristics for its comprehensive academic programs; Healthy financial performance with five years of increases in unrestricted net assets, including fiscal 2008; Good revenue diversity and demonstrated fundraising record; and An experienced management team that continues to focus on improving the university's visibility and stature, strengthening undergraduate student quality, and increasing endowment.
