Abstract
Standard & Poor's Ratings Services' analytic methodology evaluates the qualitative and quantitative factors of an issuer to determine a credit ratings opinion on that issuer. The analytic framework for industrial companies in all sectors, including capital goods, is divided into two major segments. The first part of the process is fundamental business risk analysis. This step forms the basis and provides the industry and business context for the second phase of the analysis, an in-depth financial risk analysis of the company. Before discussing the specific factors we analyze within our methodological framework, it is important to understand how we view the relationship between business and financial risks.
