Abstract The Asia ex-Japan corporate default study and rating transitions report for 2006 covers 582 entities across China, Fiji, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, and Thailand rated by Standard & Poor's Ratings Services between 1992 and 2006, inclusive. Rated entities in Japan are covered in a separate annual study. The latest default study on Japan issuers demonstrated the same key findings as this and the global default study. Included in this study on Asia ex-Japan (hereinafter 'Asia') are industrials, utilities, banks, insurance companies, and other financial institutions. The study includes issuers with long-term local currency ratings, but excludes those issuers with public information ('pi') issuer ratings or ratings...
