Asia-Pacific Sovereign Credit Outlook 2007: Steaming Ahead With Slightly Less Puff Feb 07

Abstract The main talking point in Asia Pacific in 2006 was the relentless growth of China, but the sovereign's increasing strength somewhat overshadowed nearly across-the-board improvements in the region's sovereign creditworthiness. Asia-Pacific sovereigns are expected to display continuing credit quality improvements in 2007, although these will occur at a more gradual pace than in 2006. Contributing to this outlook is the expectation of another year of healthy economic growth in the region. While such growth is likely to fall short of the sterling performance delivered in 2006, it will allow governments further room to push ahead with necessary reforms and put their finances on a more stable footing.
