Abstract
M&A remains the preferred method of using discretionary cash flows in the European media sector. A range of midsize cash-funded transactions in the third quarter of 2005 has left very little uncommitted discretionary cash flow capacity among the sector's leading players for the remainder of the year. Integration risks appear moderate, however, with companies either extending their well-established business franchises (Pearson PLC, Reed Elsevier, EMAP PLC, Wolters Kluwer N.V., VNU N.V.) or buying out minority interests (Bertelsmann AG).
