This survey provides an insight in major trends in Russia's oil refining industry in 2010. The report looks at primary refining, output of gasoline, jet kerosene, diesel fuel, fuel oil, lubricants by companies, regional markets for petroleum products, price trends, as well as exports of oil products by volume and destinations. In addition, the report provides an overview of the financial performance of the sector.

The survey covers the performance of downstream units of seven Russian oil companies in 2009 (Rosneft, Lukoil, Surgutneftegaz, TNK-BP, Gazprom Neft, Russneft, Slavneft) and looks at the refining sector of AFK Sistema.

Major trends

- The Russian market for gasoline and diesel fuel grew strongly in 2008, up by 8.1% and 7.2% respectively. Annual sales of gasoline reached 271 million barrels while diesel fuel exceeded 272 million barrels.

- In 2009, sales of gasoline surpassed zero growth, up 0.1%. Annual sales of gasoline reached 283 million barrels. Sales of diesel fuel and fuel oil contracted by 12.7% and 25.8% respectively.

- In January-August 2010, sales of gasoline grew by 4.3%, diesel fuel – by 0.4%. Sales of heating oil fell once again by 12.3%.
