Russia's Fertilizer Industry in 2009-2010

This survey provides an insight into major trends in the development of Russia’s fertilizer industry. The report covers the output of nitrogen, phosphate and potash fertilizers, exports by volumes and destinations and regional production. Also included is an overview of the structure of EuroChem, Uralkali, Acron Holding, Phosagro, Silvinit Group, UralChem, SIBUR-Fertilizers and a review of the performance of independent producers Togliattiazot, Kuibishevazot, Minudobreniya. The survey also studies the financial position of Russia’s fertilizer industry.
Russia's mineral fertilizer production
Russia currently represents 12% of world production and 18% of world exports, making it one the leading players on the world market. However, the country's share of world consumption currently stands at 2%. The production of mineral fertilizers is also one of the leading base industries of the Russian chemical industry. The mineral fertilizers industry accounts for more than a third of production and 40% of exports in the industry.
Russia’s mineral fertilizers industry has been focused on export expansion in recent years depending mostly upon the world market trends. Exports account for more than 73% of local fertilizer production.
There is a relatively low dependence of the mineral fertilizers industry on the development of Russia’s economy and agriculture. In 2009, Russian mineral fertilizers production fell much deeper in comparison with GDP and the agricultural sector, surging in 1H2010, owing to a recovery in world and domestic markets
