Abstract The rehabilitation of the Czech banking system, following the severe economic problems of the late 1990s, has almost run its course. The banking system is benefiting from economic stabilization and growth, as well as structural reforms and ownership changes. Consequently, the high economic and industry risks, which dominated the banking system for most of the past decade, since the introduction of a market-based economy in the Czech Republic, have lifted.
