Abstract
Following a three-year recession in the industrial economy that caused a sharp downturn in the capital goods sector, macro economic and industrial indicators started trending upward during the last half of 2003 and have turned sharply positive in 2004, indicating that the long-anticipated sector recovery is in full swing and should be sustained, at least for the next year or perhaps two. The magnitude and duration of the sector recovery will depend upon the sustainability of solid GDP growth rates, continued increases in industrial production and capacity utilization, and to some extent on recovery of non-residential construction, which has shown some modest improvement this year.
