Despite the fact that women are the main drugs consumers, randomised clinical trial are usually performed on young males. Gender pharmacology has been developed to try to go beyond this gap of knowledge, highlighting if responses to pharmacological treatments could be different in males and in females, and taking into account physiologic variations that affect women according to cycles of reproductive life, age and use of estro-progestinic drugs.

The aim of this book is to provide the main concepts of gender pharmacology, to underline that women should not be considered, even from a clinical or pharmacologic point of view, as “little men”.
