Managing the Sourcing Portfolio - Balancing Investments for Risk, Agility, and Control
Nemertes Research, Dec 2010, Pages: 7
Risk, control, agility, and cost characteristics of systems and of sourcing options should drive an organization’s decisions about where to source each system.
The overall sourcing portfolio should be managed like a financial portfolio, balancing the desires for performance and liquidity against requirements for security and stability, within the organization’s tolerance for risk. Adopting virtualization at many levels and evolving through virtualized data centers to internal clouds prepares an organization to take the fullest possible advantage not only of its own resources but also of the broad spectrum of sourcing options available.
Highly mobile virtualized workloads allow rapid reallocation of systems to different parts of the portfolio, so it can be well balanced at all times.
