In the past six months, the operating environment for corporations in South and Southeast Asia was relatively stable and the overall credit quality improved modestly. Investor sentiment in the bond market weakened in the second quarter of 2004, due to a combination of high oil prices, government efforts to cool China's economy, and expectations of interest rate hikes. Investor appetite has returned since July, evident from the successful bond issues in August. More corporate bond issues are expected in the near term.
