Abstract The major players in the North American life insurance industry continue to take advantage of strong capabilities in the management of distribution, product innovation, and effective enterprise risk management. The strengths of the larger players set the tone for the stable outlook that Standard & Poor's Ratings Services retains for the sector. Long-term growth for the industry has been a problem, as the industry has had difficulty reaching all but the wealthiest demographics of the market.
