Improved Market Conditions And Ongoing Restructuring Should Help Dutch Banks Exit From Government Support Mar 11

Abstract
Improved domestic market conditions and extensive restructuring undertaken by certain Dutch financial institutions over the past two years should, in Standard & Poor's Ratings Services' view, pave the way for the banks' impending exit from various forms of government support. Despite diverging financial results for 2010, we consider that Dutch banks' inherent profitability generally improved. Furthermore, we expect some stabilization in 2011 and more room for improvement from 2012. Nevertheless, we believe that global market conditions will determine the pace at which those banks hardest hit by the financial crisis in 2008-2009 will exit from this support and, in some cases, continue to implement specific requirements set by the European Commission (EC).
