Abstract In all of Standard & Poor's Ratings Services rating reviews, we assess both absolute as well as relative metrics to develop our rating opinion. Several times a year, Standard & Poor's life and health insurance group reviews groups of peer insurance companies to assess and compare their financial and structural strengths. Viewing companies comparatively enables some of their subtle distinctions to be brought to light and then clarified, which in turn permits us to tighten and refine our ongoing assessments of their credit worthiness and performance.
