Sector Review: The List Of 'AAA' U.S. Municipalities Grows By Four Oct 06

Abstract
Since our last review in June 2005, there have been six additions and two deletions to the list of municipalities that carry 'AAA' GO (or issuer credit) ratings. There are now 70 'AAA' municipalities, up from 66 a year ago and 54 in 2002. Additions to the list include Weston, Fla. and Malibu, Calif. Both of these issuers received 'AAA' ICRs, as neither has outstanding GO debt. The ICR implies what the GO rating would be if an issuer had this type of debt outstanding. Upgrades added four additional municipalities: Alpharetta, Ga., Chandler, Ariz., and Bedford and Hingham, Mass. These four all had been upgraded from 'AA+'.
