Plurinational State of Bolivia Long-Term Ratings Raised One Notch To 'B+'; Outlook Stable May 11

Abstract
Low fiscal deficits (or surpluses) over the last five years--combined with debt forgiveness--have led to a steady decline in Bolivia's debt burden in relation to GDP and government revenues. In addition, the sovereign's current account surpluses and rising international reserves underpin solid external indicators. As a result, we have raised the foreign- and local-currency sovereign credit ratings on Bolivia to 'B+/B' from 'B/B'. The stable outlook reflects a track record of adherence to prudent macroeconomic policies despite the high level of political turmoil.
