Abstract The economic and industry risks of the Estonian banking system have abated in recent years. They remain on a par with, or somewhat lower than, those of most of its continental new EU country peers, but lower than those of its Baltic neighbors, Latvia and Lithuania. Estonia is enjoying robust economic growth, owing to the successful use of market-oriented policies since independence. The financial profile of the leading banks has strengthened, supported, in most cases and at varying degrees, by the transfer of skills from sound, investment-grade, Nordic owners.
