This is part of a wider strategy to enter emerging markets that has also involved an agreement to reacquire the rights to three therapeutics from Hypermarcas in Brazil, two of which are currently approved in the country. These are Vectibix (panitumumab), Mimpara (cinacalcet) and romiplostim (currently under review for approval by the Brazilian regulatory body ANVISA, the National Health Surveillance Authority, and registered as Nplate in the US). With these two moves, Amgen is gaining an established infrastructure, including facilities in Sao Paulo, and approved molecules in an important developing market, positioning them well to take full advantage of the opportunities for the increased revenue that this offers
