Global Telecoms - What is Hot in 2011
Paul Budde Communication Pty Ltd, April 2011, Pages: 16
Surprisingly, it is not the latest technology that is driving the telecoms market in 2011 - but 2G mobile, which is now over twenty years old. This is because 2G technology allows for very cheap telecoms services for people even in the poorest countries. Mobile however, will also drive investments in the developed market where the rapid growth in wireless broadband requires new investments - especially in infrastructure. Developments in the fixed market are also hotting up as DSL based investments will peak in 2015. However the telcos are not well prepared to compete with HFC broadband (DOCSIS), and it is predicted to outcompete DSL until FttH starts to arrive. In the meantime economic reforms require new policies for healthcare, education, energy, environment and other sectors. Broadband networks are considered to be a key tool to achieve these reforms and increase productivity at the same time. This could lead to regulated driven reforms in the telecoms industry. This report provides information on the key areas for 2011 in the sectors of mobile comms, wireless broadband, fixed broadband, the digital economy and trans-sector developments. Where applicable, supporting statistics have been included. The report is designed to provide current observations which may assist investors, analysts and industry participants in making investment and business decisions.
