Abstract
TOKYO (Standard & Poor's) March 14, 2011--Standard & Poor's Ratings Services said today that the catastrophic earthquake and tsunami that hit northeastern Japan on March 11, 2011, is likely to have a limited impact on the ratings on Japan's major banks and most regional financial institutions. We believe that the ratings on regional banks based in quake-hit areas are likely to be supported by potential government support, to be provided as necessary. However, Standard & Poor's will review the possible impact on the ratings on regional individual banks, examining government support and damage to the banks' corporate customers. In our opinion, the damage from the earthquake and tsunami is likely to be larger than that caused by the Hanshin earthquake...
