Abstract
The rating on Bethesda, Md.-based satellites services provider Iridium Communications Inc. reflects a vulnerable business risk profile stemming from the company's participation in a niche market. The business also requires substantial long-term satellite replacement capital expenditures to continue current operations beyond 2014, which Standard & Poor's Ratings Services expects to result in substantial negative free operating cash flow (FOCF) and a highly leveraged capital structure over the long term. Minimally tempering these risks are the attractiveness of Iridium's services to a narrow customer base requiring ubiquitous global coverage and our expectations for significant revenue growth from data usage.
