eHealth NOW Spotlight Report: State of eHealth Interoperability in Canada
Branham Group, March 2010, Pages: 14
Over the past few years, focus on leveraging technology for achieving greater efficiency in the healthcare sector has increased manifold. Information and Communications Technology (ICT) now forms a major component of the move towards a more patient centric model of healthcare delivery. However, at the core of this transformation lies the seamless integration of the mosaic of technologies being used within the healthcare sector, thereby providing the capability for timely and accurate information exchange between systems and facilities across local and regional boundaries. This requires applications to talk with each other, allow access to information by those who need it and ensure information flow in the correct way. Interoperability, hence, has become the number one challenge in the road to achieving an interoperable electronic health record.
