Credit quality in the North American chemicals sector improved throughout 2010, benefiting from stronger operating results, prospects for a gradual economic recovery in 2011, and continued strong access to capital markets among issuers. Financial metrics strengthened across the sector as companies benefited from operating gains and less aggressive policies on capital outlays and shareholder rewards. As a result, financial profiles are healthy relative to our rating expectations, cash balances have increased, and cash flow metrics have improved.
