Cross-Market Commentary: Can LinkedIn Keep Up With Its Share Price? May 11

Abstract
In the week following LinkedIn Corp.'s $352.8 million initial public offering (IPO), several notable developments regarding the company have occurred. First, according to data retrieved from Capital IQ, LinkedIn now has a market capitalization in excess of $9 billion, placing the company's valuation among the top 50 technology companies in the U.S. Second, and perhaps of greater significance, is that among all U.S. IPOs completed since 2005, LinkedIn is among the 15 largest U.S. companies. In table 1 below, only two other IPOs priced this year-- HCA Holdings Inc. and Kinder Morgan Inc.--have market capitalization currently trading above $1 billion.
