Abstract
The counterparty credit rating on Humana Inc. and the insurer financial strength ratings on Humana's operating subsidiaries are based on the consolidated group's strong overall business risk and financial risk profiles. The ratings incorporate Standard & Poor's Ratings Services' view that Humana's credit profile remains well protected by its strong competitive position in the private Medicare market, where it holds No. 2 national market shares in both Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D. As of March 31, 2011, Humana covered 1.903 million Medicare Advantage (MA) members and 2.357 million stand-alone Medicare Part D (PDP) members, trailing only UnitedHealth Group Inc. in both markets.
